North Wales is famous for its mountains, slate quarries and castles – and also its rain! For many centuries, lime has played an important role in protecting traditional buildings from the worst of the weather. This tradition of working with the environment and not against it can be seen throughout Wales both in traditional craft practices but also in the adoption of new and sustainable uses of lime. The use of lime in Wales is not just about preserving its architectural heritage but seeking a more sustainable way to build and repair.
With a focus on wet walls in Wales, this year’s conference will explore:
